Dr. Eric Opoku Agyemang

Founder & National Coordinator

Dr. Eric Opoku Agyemang’s journey to founding Patriots Ghana began at a young age, shaped by personal loss and a deep sense of responsibility. At just 10 years old, Eric experienced the passing of his father, which led to significant hardships for his family due to local customs. His mother lost her business and the resources needed to educate Eric and his three brothers. Despite these challenges, a supportive network of family and friends enabled them to pursue their education, instilling in Eric a lifelong commitment to give back to society.

While in senior high school, Eric made a promise to his mother: if he ever attained financial stability, he would dedicate his resources to helping others. This promise guided his future endeavors. Eric’s passion for non-profit work was ignited during his time at Kwadaso Agricultural College, where he joined a student-run charity organization. His commitment to service deepened during his national service year as a District Project Coordinator with the National Disaster Management Organization, where he also volunteered as an Agriculture Science teacher. His dedication led to a promotion as Head of the Boarding Department at CKC International School, where he used his additional income to support three students.

In 2006, after completing his national service, Eric was appointed by the State House as a District Agronomist to manage the Ghanaian President’s Project on Oil-palm in the Kwahu West District. The following year, he transitioned to the role of Headmaster at the Great Promise School Complex in Kasoa. This position allowed him to fulfill his promise to his mother by co-founding the Cheerful Hearts Foundation with his friend, Bright Fiatsi, a community-based organization focused on making a positive impact.

Driven by a desire to broaden their influence, Eric, along with other passionate Ghanaians, founded Patriots Ghana. This larger platform aimed to unite Ghanaians committed to the nation’s development, combining resources to create a significant impact on a national scale.

In 2015, Dr. Agyemang was honored to be a fellow in the pioneering cohort of President Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), which further expanded his ability to make a difference. Since then, he has held several leadership positions and led impactful programs both in Ghana and the United States.

Dr. Agyemang earned his Ph.D. in Social Welfare, along with a Graduate Certificate in International Development Policy and Management, from the University of Washington. He also holds a Master’s in Social Work (Administration and Policy) from the University of Washington and a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and Management from Methodist University of Ghana. His education, coupled with his life experiences, fuels his unwavering dedication to social justice and national development.
